Kate and Bob Montgomery, after over a decade of breeding many wonderful quality Soay sheep, retired as shepherds in 2008, and the world of Soay sheep is much the poorer for their absence. Although they have exited the sheep business, the legacy of their Blue Mountain Soay Sheep lives on in many successful flocks across the US and Canada.
Most of the information about Soay Sheep, and especially the Blue Mountain line, that you will find on these pages is in Kate's own words, reproduced with only minor editorial changes. We believe no one can describe the distinctive Blue Mountain Soay better than the breeder who created them! These sections are presented in the same green typeface Kate used on her original website. Unless otherwise noted, all the photographs are Kate's.
